· MxM for Sony's EX1/EX3/EX1R ·

The MxM expresscard/34 reader has been specifically designed and manufactured for use in Sony's EX1/EX3/EX1R video cameras. The measurements of the card are comparable with Sony's SxS media card. The design of the MxM expresscard/34 accommodates SDHC memory cards without protruding out of the adapter. The physical measurements are closely matched to Sony’s SxS media card. It allows the media chamber door to totally close on the EX1/EX3/EX1R cameras. The MxM utilises a very reliable push in/push out mechanism and is embodied in a rugged stainless steel case, which minimizes accidental damage. The MxM expresscard/34 has been field tested and works best with the popular memory card manufacturers ATP ProMax Class 6, RAW SDHC Class 6 from Hoodman Corporation, Sandisk or Transcend. These memory cards are one of the fastest and have the best specifications for read and write for Sony's EX1/EX3/EX1R cameras.

The MxM expresscard/34 will record at 1920 x 1080/50i or 60i35mb/s HQ in the same way as your SxS Pro memory card will record. This is the most popular format the majority of video operators will record at. By utilising a combination of MxM expresscard/34 and a reasonably priced SDHC memory card, film makers and videographers on location can now shoot for days, without the unnecessary and costly need of extra equipment to safeguard their footage to eg laptops or pcs. They can offload at their convenience at a later stage and reduce interruptions during the filming process.

MxM expresscard/34 has helped decrease production costs and has helped make the Sony EX1/EX3/EX1R more affordable to professional film makers. Therefore the cost of footage per hour has been reduced drastically.

Supported Video Formats in PAL area:
· HQ1080/50i · SP1080/50i · HQ1080/25P · HQ720/50P · HQ720/25P ·

MxM expresscard/34 in combination with the most accepted SDHC memory cards can over crank at 720p/42fps to 50fps successfully, depending upon the speed and durability of the memory card. You may be able to achieve a higher rate, but only for short periods (10s - 3s long clips) as it is limited to Sony's EX1/EX3 implementation of USB interface and the speed of the SDHC memory card.
On EX1R cameras, over cranking is achieveable to 60fps.

· Frequently Asked Questions ·

Which firmware should I have to use MXM cards?
MXM cards will only work with firmware 1.11_0531 and 1.12 on EX1. All EX1 cameras produced post August 2008 come with this update. There is no present issues with firmware on EX3 cameras, as all EX3 are made USB enabled from its release. If your camera does not have this update you will have to go back to Sony to have the firmware updated. There are links on the internet which show you how to update manually, but we highly recommend you use a Sony repair centre to complete it.

Why should I use a MxM card instead of Sony SxS card?
The biggest considerations to use the MXM cards are price and application. For example, if you don’t use the over cranking feature on your camera there is no disadvantage. This has led producers to be able to complete shoots without the need to offload to their laptop or PC. Some producers are completing several days of shooting and downloading when they return to the studio. Others are handing over the SDHC cards at the end of the shoot, in the same way they did with tape.
